If you are reading this, you are still pretty early on NBA Top Shot. NBA Top Shot is still in beta & will probably be in beta until the next NBA season in the winter or maybe 2022. This is a great time to start collecting on moments & seek hidden gems (players) that could have potential to rise back to relevance & stardom.

It is the consensus that TS debut moments are the best, long-term assets to add to your collection. They are the player’s 1st moment (underlined in red) to be on the platform. Regardless of the tier (common, rare, or legendary), these moments are the ones to strive for as an avid collector or investor. It is an subjective task but could be beneficial in the long run due to the utility that may arise with them. For more information, I highly suggest reading the official explanation on the NBA Top Shot Blog for a better understanding.

(This only accounts for the Commons)
  • Series 1 Common TS debut badges = (1,000–3,999 minted)

— Ex: Lebron minted to 1,000 & Aaron minted to 3,999 (underlined in green)

All S1 TS debut moments are available in a rare or Legendary tier as well. But buy what you can afford. (S1=Series 1) (underlined in yellow)

Notable Mention: Nikola Vucevic

Now here are your Top 10 S1 TS debuts under $100 dollars:

10. Domantas Sabonis

Moment

  • Domantas receives a bounce pass from TJ McConnell in which he puts his defender on a poster for an emphatic jam!

Potential:

  • Talk about a player building his way from the ground up. He started in OKC averaging 5.9 PPG while shooting 39.9% from the field. Four years later, he is an 2-time All-Star averaging 20 PPG & 12 RPG on 53% from the field in addition to 6.7 APG! The 6"10 Lithuanian is only 24 years old & has improved statistically year to year. He is very athletic for 6"10 & moves well on the court. He will need to improve his free throw shooting (73%) but he is already a big problem in the league. There needs to be more respect put on his name & grabbing him could be a huge steal down the line.

9. Dillon Brooks

Moment:

  • Dillon Brooks throws a ridiculous half-court lob to Jaren Jackson Jr. who slams it down!

Potential:

  • The playoffs are a huge way to solidify your name & value in the league. We already knew Dillon was a good player but he stepped up averaging 25.8 PPG on 51% from the field. He improved his PPG by 7 points & his field goal percentage by nearly 10% compared to the regular season! He showed toughness & a style of grit that I loved seeing in him. The stats may not show it, but he is also an underrated defender as he has the strength & size to clamp down on guards. He is only 25 years old & is a great complement to the electrifying, Ja Morant. The price tag on Dillon doesn’t do him fair.

8. Collin Sexton

Moment:

  • Collin receives a pass in the paint & throws down a vicious left-handed dunk over his opponent!

Potential:

  • Cleveland should build multiple statues of Lebron James & give him partial ownership of the team. Without Lebron, Cleveland has been competing for the #1 overall pick in the NBA lottery & has been amongst the worst teams in the NBA. But they have Collin Sexton, a shining star who averaged 24.3 PPG on nearly 46% from the field this season. The fact that he is in Cleveland, putting up these numbers, is very impressive especially considering that he is only 22 years old! He was also a threat from downtown shooting nearly 39%. I hope he gets out of Cleveland because he is too good of a talent to stay. I expect him to receive a long-term contract & be a great, All-Star player in the NBA for years to come!

7. Caris Lavert

Moment:

  • Caris is in transition & drops a no-look dime from the 3 point line to Jarret Allen who dunks it home.

Potential:

  • I believe Caris is a player who needs to be put in the right position to really shine. Caris is an exciting player who will give 20 PPG with about 5 APG. He has also been averaging around 1.5 SPG. His versatility in addition to his length makes him such a unique player. He can guard multiple positions & has an smooth offensive game to his arsenal. The only thing holding Caris back is durability. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the 26 year old star in the making! Hopefully, he lands on the right team with the right coach next season.

6. Spencer Dinwiddie

Moment:

  • Late in the game, Spencer Dinwiddie crosses to his left, drives right & pulls up, hitting the clutch fadeaway shot to beat the Cavs!

Potential:

  • It is a shame that Spencer didn’t play in the playoffs for the Brooklyn Nets as he tore his ACL back in December of 2020. The year before, he was averaging 20.6 PPG with 6.8 APG. Before the big 3 in Brooklyn, he was the “go-to” guy on the Nets. Even though his shot selection could’ve been better, he has that potential to be the point guard on a championship winning team. He has all the tools to be a great player in the league. He will probably test the free agency market & it would be exciting to see where he lands for the next NBA season!

5. Victor Oladipo

Moment:

  • In his return to the court from injury, Oladipo, with no hesitation, pulls up from three, hitting the clutch shot to give the Pacers the W!

Potential:

  • Based on what the TS market values Oladipo at, this could be a massive steal. This is a 2-time All-Star who averaged nearly 19 PPG & was an underrated defender in the NBA in his 4 year stint with the Pacers. He was their main guy & even lead them to the 2018 playoffs where he performed very well against the Lebron led Cavs, taking them to a game 7 in the first round of the series in which they lost by only 4 points! Oladipo had 30 points that game. Injuries have played a factor in his decline. But if he gets the proper rest & comes back 100% healthy, he could be the player that he was. Excited to see how he does next season!

4. Seth Curry

Moment:

  • Seth casually drives to the paint & executes an sweet, no look, behind the back pass to Luka Doncic for the slam!

Potential:

  • This one could be a little controversial due to him not having the same success in the regular season as the others mentioned (12.4 PPG?). But like I said before, the playoffs are a huge way to solidify your name & value in the league. He was able to average 18.8 PPG while shooting an astounding 58% from the field. More surprisingly, he shot 50% from downtown! He was reminiscent of his brother, Steph Curry who is regarded as the best shooter in NBA history. Based on the playoffs, he certainly proved himself worthy of being a starter & landing a nice contract. Plus, he is a player who started from the G-league. He went on to win the MVP of the G-league back in 2015 & has climbed all the ranks possible to get to the point where he is now at. Due to his work ethic & rise, I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes one of the best scorers in the league next season! Maybe an MIP candidate?

3. CJ McCollum

Moment:

  • CJ is at the corner. He drives to his left, blowing by his defender & dunks it over his opponent, making for a solid finish at the rim.

Potential:

  • CJ is already a well-established player & respected player in the NBA. He is a straight-up bucket, who averaged nearly 23 PPG on 46% from the field this season. He also shot 40% from downtown during the season. Most importantly, he is an shot creator who could pull up from anywhere & makes very difficult, contested shots. His future in Portland is uncertain but he has a better reputation than a lot of players in the NBA. The only knock on him is that he hasn’t been an All-Star. But if he gets traded to a bigger market, his name will be mentioned a lot more on ESPN. Getting him now is an absolute steal in my book!

2. Julius Randle

Moment:

  • Julius drives down the lane & throws down a monstrous, right-handed slam on his defender!

Potential:

  • Julius Randle was a huge surprise as he got his 1st All-Star selection & won the MIP award averaging nearly 24 PPG, 10 RPG, & 6 APG in the regular season! He shot an respectable 46% from the field in addition to shooting 41% from downtown. He was an absolute beast this year. Even though he didn’t meet the same production in the playoffs, the 26 year old Knick proved himself to be a great player in the NBA. He also carries that mamba mentality with him & in a game against the Lakers, an amazing story was revealed about how Kobe impacted Julius when they were teammates. He is also an underrated defender due to his size, strength, & athleticism. I believe Julius is gonna work hard & become an consistent, All-Star selection in the NBA. Not to mention the power of the New York Knicks. This season showed how popular the Knicks really are & how passionate their fanbase really is. All in all, this would be a great pickup to add to your collection!

1. Demar Derozan

Moment:

  • Demar is facing his former team, the Toronto Raptors. Demar drives hard into the lane & throws an absolutely, ridiculous slam on his defender as they both fall down with Demar getting the “And-1.” (My favorite moment on this list)

Potential:

  • Demar has left an legacy in Toronto dating back to his days with Kyle Lowry. The 4-time All-Star has averaged 20.1 PPG on 46% from the field in his career. He will always be in the hearts of Toronto fans but his career isn’t done yet. I believe the 32 year old veteran has plenty left in the tank. It is a real possibility that he tests out the market & lands on a team that can compete for a championship. He would be an asset to any team he lands on. He has tons of playoff experience & am very excited for his future. Out of all the players on this list, Demar has a real possibility of making the Hall of Fame.
